Renovation and 2nd Story Addition in Winnona Park

"Should we just demolish the existing house and build new?"

Overview

Not every house has to be bulldozed in order to make way for a new home.  This existing two bedroom home in Decatur is the perfect example of a home that can double in size and increase in function for countless years to come.

Our design strategy was to keep the existing basement and first floor exterior walls. We added a second story to house all the bedrooms and laundry room. The basement includes a family room, outdoor entertainment space, and a beer brewing room.

This design included two two variances for a front yard semi-circular drive and side setback encroachment.

We recommended Plants Creative Landscapes to lead the landscape design and installation. They created a wonderful, modern landscape that complements the exterior of the home.

“NATALIE AND HER TEAM TRANSFORMED OUR 1950S TRACT HOUSE INTO A UNIQUE MODERN DESIGN. THAT WAS JUST THE BEGINNING, THOUGH. WE IMMEDIATELY ENCOUNTERED MULTIPLE VARIANCE ISSUES WITH OUR CITY DUE TO DRIVEWAY CHANGES AND OTHER ISSUES LARGELY INTRODUCED TO ADDRESS STORM WATER DRAINAGE ONTO OUR PROPERTY. SHE AND OUR LANDSCAPING CONTRACTOR WERE AN UNSTOPPABLE AND STUCK WITH US UNTIL THE VARIANCE BOARD CAPITULATED. WE CAN’T RECOMMEND NATALIE ENOUGH.” – JESSE AND LENEE B.
